FAQs
The following FAQs are provided to answer some of the questions you may have.
Getting Started with Orthodontic Treatment
The best time to start orthodontic treatment varies depending on the individual, but the American Board of Orthodontics recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Early evaluation allows orthodontists to identify potential issues, such as open bites or misaligned upper teeth, and create a comprehensive treatment plan. Starting treatment early can also help prevent future dental issues like gum disease.
Absolutely! Orthodontic treatments are not limited to children and teenagers. Many adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment to address issues such as crowded teeth, crooked teeth, or misalignment. Smile with Style Orthodontics offers a range of adult orthodontic treatment options, including clear aligners and traditional braces. Our orthodontists will work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan that suits your specific needs and goals.
During your first visit to Smile with Style Orthodontics, you can expect a thorough clinical examination by Dr. Buchseib. He will assess your oral health, evaluate your bite, and discuss any concerns you may have. Depending on your specific needs, he may recommend orthodontic appliances such as braces or aligners to correct misalignment or deep bites. Our professional staff will thoroughly explain the treatment process and answer any questions you may have.
The duration of orthodontic treatment depends on the complexity of the case and the specific treatment plan. On average, treatment can last anywhere from 12 to 36 months. Some cases may require additional procedures, such as orthognathic surgery or dentofacial orthopedics, which can extend the treatment time. Following the orthodontist’s instructions and attending regular appointments is important to ensure the best possible outcome.
The frequency of visits to Smile with Style Orthodontics will depend on your individual treatment plan. Typically, patients must visit the office every 4-6 weeks for adjustments and progress checks. Regular orthodontic check-ups are important to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned and to address any concerns or adjustments that may be necessary. Our team will provide a detailed appointment schedule and guide you on maintaining good oral hygiene throughout your treatment.

Orthodontic Treatment Options
When it comes to fixing your teeth, what works best depends on your situation and the seriousness of the dental problems. Options include traditional braces, clear aligners, and lingual braces to help you get a straight and healthy smile. Dr. Buchseib and his team will help you make the right choice. They’ll be able to guide you toward the treatment option that best fits your needs.
Actually, that’s the goal. When problems like crooked teeth and bite issues are repaired, you’re less likely to run into tooth decay, gum disease, and other troubles with your teeth. Plus, when your teeth are straightened out, keeping them clean becomes much easier, which helps maintain a healthy smile. To figure out the best way to tackle any dental concerns, it’s wise to talk things over with Dr. Buchseib and his team members.
Braces and Invisalign® Care
Dr. Buchsieb provides detailed care instructions to help you maintain your dental health before, during, and after your Invisalign® orthodontic treatment.
With every orthodontic treatment, you should keep the area where your teeth meet your gums clean. For Invisalign® aligners, simply remove them to begin your cleaning regimen. Rinse your aligners with water to remove any particles of food debris. It’s important that you floss daily and brush your teeth twice a day. And don’t forget to clean your tongue using a toothbrush or a tongue scraper. Bacteria can reside, and it is important to eliminate it.
Once your aligners come out, you may need to wear a removable retainer for some time. When removing your aligners or retainer, place them in a safe storage case.
Smile With Style Orthodontics is here to help in any emergency with your braces. Remember, braces are delicate and must be maintained properly to prevent damage. Even if you follow the care instructions for your braces, they may sometimes get damaged.
Emergency orthodontic kits are available for purchase at the Smile With Style Orthodontics front desk. The kit includes pliers, floss and floss threaders, and orthodontic wax.
If a bracket or band on your braces loosens and it’s still attached to the wire, you should leave it in place. If it’s uncomfortable, you can place wax on it. If it comes out completely, you can wrap the loose bracket or band in tissue and bring it to the office.
If a wire tie gets loose and pokes the inside of your mouth, gently tuck the wire back into place with a blunt object like a pencil eraser or cover the end with a piece of wax.
If you have mild soreness following your orthodontic visit, it should subside by taking over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If you have concerns or you’re experiencing long-term soreness and discomfort, visit Smile With Style Orthodontics for an evaluation. If your appliances irritate your cheeks, tongue, lips, or gums, try rinsing your mouth with salt water and covering the appliance with wax. Dr. Buchsieb will help make your orthodontic appliances as comfortable and effective as possible. Call the office to schedule an appointment today – 614-428-8002.
TMJ/TMD Management
When dealing with temporomandibular disorders (TMD), the go-to approach usually starts with nonsurgical treatments and things you can do at home. This might mean doing jaw exercises, taking medication to ease the pain, finding ways to lessen stress, and changing how you live day-to-day to avoid anything that makes it worse and help bring down the symptoms.
TMJ/TMD is a long-lasting issue, and even though the symptoms might not always be there, it’s rare for them to disappear completely without any help. But with the proper care and looking after yourself well, you can really cut down on how bad these symptoms get and make those sudden problems less frequent.
Dealing with TMJ/TMD flare-ups at home is totally possible. You can try reducing your stress, using warm or cold packs where it hurts, staying away from tough or sticky snacks, doing jaw workouts, and keeping your back straight.

With digital X-rays, there’s less radiation than the old-school film ones, which is why people getting their teeth checked and those doing the checking prefer them.
